About this project
Aketua instant pay for Ghana's hustle economy
Ghana runs on its hustle economy: farm hands, construction crews, market traders, delivery riders, seamstresses, cleaners. Millions of people are paid informally in cash, or through mobile-money transfers sent one person at a time. For the employer, payday means counting notes by hand or firing off MoMo payments individually, with no records and no proof of who was paid what. For the worker, it means no payslip, no financial history, and no cushion so when money runs short before payday, the only option is a loan shark.
Aketua turns payday from an hour of stress into a single tap.
An employer adds their crew once names, mobile-money numbers or bank accounts, and pay rates. On payday, one button pays everyone at the same time, straight to their MTN, Telecel, or AirtelTigo wallet, or their bank. Every worker instantly receives an SMS confirming their payment, and the employer gets an itemized digital receipt for every single payout so "you never paid me" arguments simply end. A wallet system holds the operating float, topped up from mobile money or bank, with an overdraft guard and maker-checker approval so no money ever moves by mistake.
Aketua is two apps in one. Employers get a full payout-operations dashboard: crew management, bulk and scheduled payouts, wallet, receipts with CSV export, and settings. Workers get their own app to see their payment history, track what they've earned this cycle, and request an advance on wages they've already earned financial dignity instead of predatory debt. And for the millions still on feature phones, Aketua exposes Moolre's USSD *203# shortcode, so anyone can pay in from any phone, no smartphone or internet required.
Critically, Aketua never touches the money itself. Every cedi flows through Moolre's payment rails the app is wired to Moolre's real Collections, Disbursements, SMS, and USSD APIs. That means Aketua isn't just a demo that uses one endpoint; it's an extensive, production-shaped integration across Moolre's whole stack. And because Moolre earns a processing fee on every transaction, Aketua is a genuine growth engine for them: as Aketua onboards more businesses and pays more crews, Moolre's transaction revenue grows with it. We bring the volume; Moolre powers the rails.
